Spring has arrived and one of the things that dominates the minds of many homeowners is home improvement. Unfortunately the gears are turning so fast it's hard to decide where to start, what to do and where to put the priorities. If you know you're due for some updates to your home but you're not sure where to start then here are some great ways to avoid idle hands. Start with these popular home improvement ideas for the changing seasons:

1. Check out the roof - Leaks can seem to come out of the blue. With all the heavy rain this year be sure to thoroughly inspect your roof to insure that you won't have costly damage later. Check for missing or loose shingles and gutters that have seen better days. Don't forget to check the flashing, chimney if you have one, and the roof vents.

2. Inspect your Windows - Windows tend to be overlooked, but they are important for the beauty and integrity of your home. The freezing and thawing through the winter could damage the window in even minor ways. Start by checking your windows for proper caulking and any cracks or improper operation. You may also want to check for mold and mildew that may being to grow as a result of failing weather proofing.

3. Replace Windows - Even if your windows are in good shape you should consider an upgrade. New energy-efficient windows are designed to save you on utilities through improved insulation while also protecting your home from intense UV rays with new coating technology. Keep the heat out in the summer and the heat in during the winter with Low-e coatings, double and triple pain windows, etc.

4. Examine the Siding - If you've got vinyl siding and you live in the colder climate regions then you need to inspect your siding. Vinyl becomes brittle when temperatures drop and can easily be damaged. For other more durable types of siding, check for flaking or peeling paint, missing or loose pieces, etc.

5. Check your Foundation - Ground can shift and settle during the winter and become saturated as the snow melts, causing the soil to sink further and hang on to excess water. Check the foundation around your home and the direction of water runoff. Ensure that water can still plane away from your home and that it's not pooling near your foundation.

6. Check your Ceiling - The ceiling in your home can be like a looking glass into your roof's condition too. Check in odd places that aren't seen in normal everyday living such as closets. If you spot any damage, climb into your attic for further investigation. This would be a great time to look over the condition of your insulation too.

Your attic is the barrier between you and the outside world, protecting you, your loved ones, and your investments. Work with a local contractor if you are thinking of home improvements in your attic. He or she can help you decide to install a radiant barrier. This is a type of foil insulation that is used in conjunction with typical insulation and blocks over 90% of heat that can be lost through your attic. These small projects can keep you happily busy while providing some loving care to your most treasured place.

Whether you want a simple design or custom Virginia Home Improvement, we work closely with you to stick to your dream designs. Consult with a contractor today to talk about your next remodel - from windows to a newly remodeling Washington DC Basement.
Have you ever looked at your bathroom and wish it looked a little different, or maybe a little more modern? Look around and think about how you would change the space. Do you have room for a larger tub or shower? Or maybe there's room for two separate components?

When you first start planning to remodel your bathroom, consider your budget, available space, and what you would like as the center piece of the bathroom. Local contractors can take your measurements and ideas and give you a pretty accurate idea of how much your new bathroom will cost so you can budget accordingly. Once the budget is set, planning is complete, and you are ready to get started, you can create the bathroom of your dreams.

Current Space Or Add To It?

When bathroom planning, one of the first things you'll want to decide is how much space you need to do what you want. If you want to install larger bath and shower components, or separate shower and tub components, you may need more room. If you are thinking of expanding and knocking out some walls, you'll need to make sure you've got the room to expand. This is of course going to cost extra, but it's all information you're going to need when figuring out your budget. When figuring out your space, you're also going to want to know if you have the room to add on. If you have a big yard, it's not going to be a problem. If you don't have the room you need, you'll probably have to go back to the drawing board with your bathroom planning.

Components

Now that you know what kind of space you have to work with, you're going to want to fill it with the various components, such as sinks, toilets, tubs, showers, and whatever else you want to put in there. At this point, you can also determine the style you want to go with.

Definitely stick with the style you choose. Keep everything looking clean and professional by sticking with one look. Just have fun with it, as bathroom planning is a blast. You'll feel a real sense of accomplishment when you look at your newly remodeled bathroom and know that you planned it from start to finish.

Improving the overall standard of living and uplifting one's lifestyle is on the top of almost every homeowner's agenda today. Unfortunately, the busy lifestyles and increasing work pressures do not allow us the leisure of planning and implementing our glorious visions of those wonderful and long-awaited home makeovers.

That's the reason exactly why the home renovation companies have now come up with a vast range of options and ideas to help you remodel your homes. But before you dial in randomly for such a service provider, you need to first do a bit of your own homework. To begin with, it is important that you analyse what is it that you actually want to achieve with your remodeling project. Do you want to improve the existing infrastructure and functional areas of your house, such as the kitchen or the garage? Or is it a lifestyle improvement you are looking for, such as restyling your living room, bedroom or the guest area?

The Next Step

Once you know what you are actually looking for, its time you search for an appropriate service provider for the purpose. Well, talking of service providers, you will be able to find two types of options .i.e. ones offering generalized home remodeling services and the other offering specialized services for a specific purpose.

Well, as aforementioned, it all depends on what your plans and budget are. If your aim is to remodel your home altogether, you can hire the services of a single contractor who will then understand the needs further and allocate sub-contractors for specialized areas. On the other hand, if you just want to work upon a specific area, such as redo the flooring, touch up the paints or update the curtains or draperies, it will be advisable to contact the specialized companies.

However, we must mention here that whether you hire a single contractor or take care of the intricacies and allocations yourself, it is always better to have the specialists handle the job. This will save you ample of resources, time and efforts, as the experts will be able to carry out the task in a much lesser time with just the right amount of costs being incurred.

The Golden Word

If you wish to see your dreams shape into reality and not burn a hole in your pocket in the process, it is important that you first organize yourself. Plan and visualize clearly what you wish to achieve and communicate the same to your contractor properly, ensuring that no ambiguities remain. To top it, just make sure you don't change your plans mid-stream, which might just put your contractor in a fix and leave you with spiraling costs to handle.

If you're doing some remodeling of a kid's bedroom, there are a number of reasons why a bunk bed makes all sorts of sense. This article we found provides all the reasons you'll need to install bunk beds in your kids' rooms.

3 Key Reasons Why Bunk Beds Are the Best for Children’s Bedrooms

Are you remodeling or designing your child’s bedroom from scratch? One of the most important steps when choosing a bed for your son or daughter is choosing the right bed. Several types of bedding are available on the market. They can certainly provide many benefits for your child. But the key is to find the best bed for your little one. This will allow him to get a good night’s sleep, every night. That is important for their overall health and in their childhood development. While you have many options when choosing a bed for your child, have you considered a bunk bed?

Many of us grew up sleeping on bunk beds. They brought us closer to our siblings, or visiting relatives and friends. A battle usually took place to determine who would get to sleep on the top bunk. But all of that was a long time ago. Are bunk beds still beneficial for kids? Let us take a closer look:

1. Bunk beds are a ball. Standard beds can provide a child with a good night’s sleep. But they are not as fun as sleeping on a bunk bed! It allows two sleepers to remain closer together, but retain their own private space. Many of us have fond memories chatting with our relative or friend above or below the bunk we were on. Also, climbing up and down the ladder, and sleeping on the top bunk provide an excitement that other types of beds cannot offer.

Bunk beds can also allow a child’s imagination to go wild. Pirate and castle-themed bunk beds make it easier for a child to envision he is a pirate at sea, or a princess in a castle’s tower. But even standard bunk beds can also allow your little ones to dream before dreaming.

2. Bunk beds are space-savers. Bunk beds’ use of vertical space makes them more efficient than other beds. Placing two beds side-by-side can waste a lot of room in a bedroom. This frees up space in the room for other furniture. Bunk beds are particularly helpful when the available space in your child’s bedroom is limited, such as in lofts.

3. Bunk beds are eye-catching. Various types of bunk beds provide an attractive alternative to other humdrum types of beds. Most bunk beds are constructed from different wood varieties. This can make it easier to match up the bed with the bedroom’s décor. In particular, if you are using a certain theme in your child’s bedroom, a bunk bed can create a perfect fit for the theme. You can either keep the natural wood or paint it, to match it up with the room’s paint, wallpaper, other furniture, etc.

You can also choose bunk beds with metal frames. These beds are lighter than wooden bunk beds, which makes them easier to move. This makes them ideal if you rearrange your child’s bedroom furniture more often.

Besides the materials used for bunk beds, they can also vary in their form and functions. Some bunk beds resemble houses, castles, boats, etc., making them ideal for certain bedroom themes. Also, some multi-purpose bunk beds are more than just beds. There are bunk beds with shelves and drawers. There are bunk beds where the bottom bed rolls out. And there are even bunk beds that include a slide attached to the top bunk!

Putting the “bed” in a “bedroom” is one of the most important steps when designing or improving your little one’s living space. Though several options are available, you should certainly consider a bunk bed. They are attractive, space-efficient, and most importantly—fun! Who knows? Your child may even look forward to bedtime!

Home remodeling has never been so popular but it is not an easy task deciding what to have done; the problems start when you are trying to work out what type of style you want and materials you need.

The expense of remodeling can be another difficult part to deal with but it also needs careful consideration and planning. The excitement of the proposals can soon be dampened once the cost has been looked at more closely and often compromises have to be made in order to complete the task.

To make this task easier, many people hire a contractor to go through the plans with them to provide a professional opinion of how much money it will cost. If you intend to use the contractor to carry out the work you need to make it clear from day one, whose responsibility it is to purchase the materials.

If most of your remodeling is exterior work then it is always advisable to let any neighbors know they may have to put up with some noise and mess for a while. Once you have done this it will be time to measure up exactly what is required for the project but be very careful with this and double check everything as any errors on your part could prove expensive. If you are unsure about measuring and ordering the materials for your home remodeling project, let your general contractor perform this task for you.

Often a contractor is only called in to consult with the home owners with technical aspects which they have already made plans about. Often contractors that are employed to carry out the work may decide specialized areas of the project would be better served by sub-contractors who are experts in a particular part of the project. There are other occasions where a contractor is himself only called in to complete certain stages the homeowner is uncomfortable with.

There isn't always a need to leave the neighborhood you live in just to get a larger house when often a home remodeling project will achieve this for you. Many home improvements are based on what's popular in a particular region or city so it is best to check to ensure what you are planning fits in well with what is happening elsewhere in your area.

If you are remodeling in order to increase the comfort and usability of your home then you are probably going to pick areas that need attention, which may or may not be the areas that tend to be most profitable in the house market. Of course many people carry out home improvements to increase the market value for when the home is put on the market for sale.

It is always worth noting that there is no guarantee that the money spent on remodeling and maintenance work will be recouped once your home has been sold. Home remodeling should in theory increase the value of your home and make for a more attractive sale. Also home remodeling can also be a project where the whole family can get involved with and have fun, so enjoy!
