3 Major Kinds Of Cockroaches In The Home
Of the 4000 odd species of cockroach found in this planet, only around three actually cause a problem and are known to invade our homes and workplaces. There are a few other species that are similar, but can be seen in the home a little less often. Every cockroach is slightly different & has its own specific characteristics. Still they are all pests & can cause great health risks and damage to us & our families.
Distinguishing these roaches could be the first step in iradication and control. It is pretty simple and can aid in extermination methods. The following are the three major common cockroaches.
American Cockroach
The American cockroach has a reddish brown color and single stripe on the head. It can grow up to 25mm in length. These creatures get easily attracted to liquor. Hence, they are often seen in bars or at home after party where wine, beer and alcohol was present. They have a life span of up to 1 and half years. Their incubation period is from 6 to 8 weeks.
German Cockroach
The German cockroach has 2 lighter stripes on the back of its head, and boast of a brownish or tan color. It can grow up to 15mm in length. It is probably the fastest breeding in comparisson to home pests, giving birth to around 30 to 40 nymphs with an incubation period of 30 days. At this rate, one cockroach can multiply into 30,000 in a year's time. These can live for around 6 months.
Oriental Cockroach
Among these three, the Oriental cockroach is probably the biggest. It grows approximately 25mm in length. They are a dark brown or black color with a shiny body and move more slowly than the other species. They are often referred to as the "waterbug" 'cause they like to live in damp, dark areas. They are potentially found in damp mulch or cellars. Incubation can last 2 months with about 15 eggs hatching and they can each live for up to two years.
