Update Your House By Redoing Your Bathroom

As homes age, they require upkeep and maintenance. It is the theory of entropy. Things do not improve spontaneously; they deteriorate. This maintenance can be of two varieties: repair of damage and wear and tear and beautifying or updating. Usually the two rooms in the house that require beautification are the kitchen and bathroom. Rooms such as bedrooms and living rooms can be updated with just new paint or new throw pillows. However, kitchens and bathrooms need more than just a new coat of paint. Over the years, the fixtures and appliances wear out and become outdated. This is when you need a competent, creative remodeling firm. In Dupage County bathroom remodeling is as easy as calling a Dupage County handyman.

Let us take a look at bathroom renovation. Bathroom remodeling can consist of new flooring, new toilet, new sink, updated bathtub or shower, paint or wallpaper, curtains, and rugs. The bathroom fixtures are the most costly and most permanent parts of the renovation. For this reason, you need to compare your needs and your budget carefully. Toilets have gone through an evolution over the last few decades. The goal has been to reduce the amount of water that is flushed away. Laws have been passed that require that all new toilets must be of the low flow variety. The other consideration is the surface characteristic of color. Back in the 1960s the popular hues were yellow, pink, green, blue, and turquoise. In the 1970s gold and avocado showed up in bathrooms as well as kitchens. These days, most fixtures are white, and that is a good thing. White goes with everything and never goes out of style.

My fantasy bathroom has a bidet. Originally, bidets were invented in Europe. All bidets used to consist of a separate fixture in the bathroom, next to the toilet. Today, you will be able to find a combination toilet seat-bidet that eliminates the need for extra floor space. The job of the bidet is to wash the derriere with a stream of warm water. Some even provide a blast of warm air for drying after the cleaning is finished. While few bathrooms have them in the United States, they are very commonly used in Europe and Japan. In this country we are lagging behind. Some say that bidets haven't been accepted because Americans discovered them when they visited French prostitutes during the First World War, so they were considered naughty.

Many old bathrooms have ceramic tile on the floors and the walls. While this tile is currently popular, the styles are very different more decorative than in the past and beautiful. However, my feeling is that you should think twice before tearing out old ceramic tile. This type of surface is extremely durable and easy to keep clean. You may need to regrout it, but even if it is an old-fashioned color, leave the ceramic tile in the bathroom.

These are a starting point for bathroom remodeling. Beyond these basics are many decisions of color and style. Do you want a modern look? Casual? The possibilities are limited just by the imagination.

Does Your Property Need A Fence?

For a few persons, having a fence between neighbors' properties isn't very sociable, and shows condescension or even dislike. A fence around the yard seems to say, "Don't impose", "Keep off my life", or maybe, "I don't need to mingle with you". But fortunately some people' is not the majority, and most would state a home's boundary fence especially certain forms of CT fences perform important purposes that overbalance the apparently negative indications. Several of these desirable uses of CT Fencing are:

Property demarcation A fence establishes the definitive limits of a home so there are no disputes that may cause unfriendly conduct with any party. This is much more important should the property change owners and property boundaries need to be marked accurately. And you can always tell when an intruder has entered your property even in the wee hours of the night.

Well-being and security In some places, crocodiles have been known to wander into garages when no fences are present. In other areas, maybe cougars, coyotes and starving bears. But in the main, the neighbor's dogs, out to dump some compost in your backyard. It is not harmful, but bothersome nevertheless.

If you have a pool, you would not want the neighbors' children wandering into it without permission or adult presence, something difficult to do without a fence. Ditto if there are poisonous plants in your premises like fox-glove, oleander and others. Or, if you grow some precious and unusual plants you of course do not want them damaged, which is probable from straying dogs or unconcerned children. With a fence, such incidents don't happen.

Protection of privacy It can be amusing ----but only for a little time that when you brush your teeth and gaze out the kitchen window you see your neighbor brushing his teeth and staring at you from out his window. So you will not want other people witnessing you acting your thing, guiltless or not, when unnecessary. The traditional Chinese build high fences around their property for this very element: privacy. People wish to live their own existence their way.

Value increment A beautiful and durable fence can add aesthetic and financial worth to a piece of property so that the fence turns into an investment. Fences of steel, stone, concrete or natural stuff can add to the look of a particular property. English mansions usually have concrete or stone fences; housing development homes have vinyl, polymer or wood panel fences, while the Japanese use bamboo or wood slats to set their gardens apart. Although bamboo does not endure relatively long, it adds much artistic value to the garden and therefore cherished.

A fence is akin to a picture frame: it limits but improves the looks of a property. A planned garden less a fence will seem like an aberration in a lea; or, worse, a misplaced declaration of a desired life. A fence can limit a view, true, but it can also craft a world in its confines. Perchance alimited world, but a reserved one created to your definitions and preferences.

Connor R. Sullivan has recently spent the summer installing CT fences. He has recently worked with a CT fencing company.
